western herbal medicine & nutrition

Many plants contain biochemical compounds that have a therapeutic affinity with our bodies. For this reason plants – both the foods we eat and medicinal plants – have been used as medicine throughout history, throughout the world and continue to provide a gentle alternative to many pharmaceutical treatments.

Often nutritional and lifestyle changes can go a long way to improving health conditions. However, this is not always the case, and sometimes this can take a long time, especially if you have experienced the condition for a long time, or are reducing pharmaceutical medicine use. This is where herbal medicines can help.

Herbal medicines support the body in a number of ways, including, reducing inflammation, optimising stress and reproductive hormones, eliminating microbes, improving liver and elimination functions, increasing circulation and enhancing tissue healing.

As a Western Medical Herbalist I am trained in nutrition and I will support you with deciding the best nutritional and lifestyle changes for you, including foods and nutritional supplements. I may also recommend functional testing to help identify the underlying imbalances that may be contributing to your condition. I will then prescribe some herbal medicines to aid the healing process.

I create bespoke prescriptions for each of my clients and medicines come in the forms of tinctures, teas or powders, capsules, suppositories and creams or ointments. Most of my medicines come from British plant growers, and some from my herbal medicine garden. I do also use plants from the Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine traditions, and from South Africa and Central America, where appropriate for specific conditions.
